What a Watermelon!
The other day we had our granddaughters over, and they couldn't get enough of the watermelon that we sliced for them. It's true, few fruits can rival the refreshing juicy, crunch of a watermelon slice. It’s a simple and delightful summer snack. Not to mention--preparation couldn’t be simpler! The girls got a kick out of eating such a giant piece of fruit and reveled in the lawlessness of spitting the seeds into the grass.
When shopping for watermelons, look for one that is symmetrical and heavy relative to its size. When tapped, it should sound hollow. Lastly, take a peak at the underside where the melon was in contact with the ground, a ripe watermelon will have a white or yellow spot, not green.
