Art & Food
Food is a sensory experience, and generally entrances our sense of sight with inventive presentations. But the program ArtBites takes the connection further by teaching us to cook in art museums. Founder Maite (My-tay) Gomez-Rejon (Rey-HONE) has worked in the education departments of the Museum of Modern Art, LACMA and the Getty Villa, and has an equally impressive culinary resume. Her ArtBites classes combine art and culinary history with hands-on cooking instruction, in museum settings, at schools, or in private homes. Class examples include: The History of Pasta at the Italian Cultural Institute, or the kid-themed Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at the Huntington Library, where under-12 guests explore the home’s grand dining room, then prepare traditional high tea snacks.
