The cannoli is a great Italian confection, long available in America's numerous Italian delis and bake shops. The crispy, trumpet-shaped shell is a satisfying vessel for sweetened ricotta cheese, dusted with some confectioners’ sugar. But the aptly named Stuffed Artisan Cannolis shop, at 176 Stanton Street on the Lower East Side, is offering new twists on the sweet treat. Owners Anthony Fontana and Brielle Dahan proved their skills running a cannoli street cart in Little Italy in 2008. But their new shop pushes the envelope with flavors like birthday cake, pistachio, and the ultimate fall treat—eggnog. Better yet, as the year progresses, their delicate tubed pastries will be spiked with liquor like Bailey’s and sambuca—just in time for New Year’s. For more info, visit stuffedcannoli.com.
