Infused Spirits

If your flavored spirits taste a bit more like furniture polish than the fruit on the label, there’s a natural route to having you sipping tastier cocktails in just a few days. Try infusing your own. Clear spirits infuse best—vodka, gin, light rum even Blanco tequila. Find your fresh herbs, spices, or fruits; wash them thoroughly and put them inside a clean, airtight jar (mason jars work spectacularly). Cover the flavoring with your chosen spirit, close the lid, and put in a cool, dark place for a few days—the fridge is a good idea. Shake 3 to 5 times a day, and do a taste-test after three days. Once you hit your preferred flavor profile, strain your now-flavored spirit into a new, clean jar, and store with the rest of your bar accouterments. Cheers!
