One of the most annoying trends in restaurants these days is the refusal to seat you unless your whole party is there. Thus, those who are dining with others and arrive at the restaurant early, are forced to either take a seat at the bar or stand uncomfortably and in the way until the rest of the party arrives. Recently this happened to me at a place where we had to wait outside on the sidewalk. I guess restaurants do this because they are afraid that two people will hog a table for six. I get it. If the rest of my party doesn’t show, I’ll get up and move to a smaller table, but why should I be made to wait next to the coat check. It’s insulting and not the way to start a pleasant dining experience.
