Excellent Spanish-influenced cooking on 17th Street
ALDEA is a handsome two-story restaurant that features modern takes on Iberian food. Start with a farm egg combined with salt cod and olives, or crisp sea urchin toast, or cod croquettas. There’s lovely Iberico ham and a hearty pork and duck terrine, mackerel, garlic shrimp and potato soup. You can make a whole meal of tapas-like small plates, or move on to main courses such as tender arctic char, roasted pork with cabbage and apples, hanger steak and a delicious paella-like serving of rice studded with chorizo, olives, duck confit and duck cracklings. The wine list at ALDEA is appropriately eclectic and reasonably priced and service is knowledgeable and chipper. ALDEA is a unique restaurant with interesting food, skillfully prepared. It’s located at 31 West 17th Street.
