The restaurant meltdown

The job of a restaurant captain, manager or Maitre d’ is fraught with tension and pressure, no question. But when one of these people has a meltdown in front of the customers, it is a very uncomfortable experience for everyone concerned, particularly the customer who is just an innocent bystander. In the past, I’ve witnessed a restaurant manager having heated, angry words with a server right at my table. Whatever the issue, I don’t need a shouting match with my spaghetti Bolognese. If this sort of confrontation is necessary, then take it outside or back to the kitchen - I don’t want to be a part of it. Many years ago I witnessed an owner slapping a waiter across the face – I’ve never forgotten it. Management is allowed to get angry – they just shouldn’t do it public.
