Nuevo Latino on West 24th Street
NUELA is a bright new restaurant featuring chef Adam Schop’s modern Latin American food. It’s exciting and fun. Start with chifa empanadas stuffed with pork and rock shrimp, or an anticucho, a Peruvian skewer of pork belly and octopus. Ceviche is a specialty and the version with surf clams, heirloom tomatoes and watermelon is simply brilliant. For main dishes, I recommend you go for the large platters that can be shared. The Peruvian chicken is great with rich skin blackened by peppery huancaina sauce and spiced with lively aji. My favorite was arroz con pato, an amazing paella featuring duck breast, foie gras and duck confit with a duck egg and gorgeous rice. The wine list features appropriate wines such as Argentine Malbec at very reasonable prices and the bar is terrific. NUELA. Olé!
