Intimidated by the wine list?

The best advice I can give people who get nervous when ordering wine in a restaurant is: don’t be afraid to ask for help. Most good dining establishments have employees called “sommeliers” or wine stewards whose job is to assemble the wine list and help patrons with their wine choices. The sommelier is not a judge, nor someone you need to impress with your wine knowledge. Welcome any suggestions. Say what you’re ordering and ask for a few good choices. Mention how much you want to spend. The sommelier might suggest a wine you’ve never heard of, so try to be open to new choices. The sommelier is a professional and just as you trust the chef to prepare a delicious dish, trust the wine guy to choose a great new wine.
