The Social Network
I recently attended Vino 2011—the third annual Italian Wine Week. A series of tastings and seminars held at The Waldorf=Astoria, one of the highlights was a panel on the benefits of social media. Many in the wine industry are just coming around to learning about social media, and marketing to Generation Y. But the seminar held a few great tips for any business trying to create a relationship with those under 30. First and foremost, be genuine. And that includes a genuine interest in the market’s thoughts and desires. Also, don’t put on the hard sell and don’t try to be too hip. These consumers need to have an honest, emotional relationship with a product before they buy it. And yes—you do have to be on Facebook and Twitter. Mobile communications is where it’s at!
