Pork in Williamsburg?
If you opened a restaurant featuring pork dishes right in the heart of the traditional Hassidic neighborhood in Brooklyn what would you call it? How about TRAIF, the Yiddish word for non-kosher. If you go this route, the food better be fantastic. TRAIF at 229 South 4th Street is. Chef and owner Jason Marcus has created a brilliant restaurant. Start with bacon-wrapped bleu cheese dates, sautéed broccoli rabe with egg, or pork cassoulet. The main course of crispy sweetbreads is amazing as is the seared foie with ham chips and maple hot sauce. The wine list is well-chosen and reasonably priced and cocktails are fine. Don’t miss the key lime pie or the doughnuts studded with bacon for dessert. TRAIF has a charming ambience, mellow prices and absolutely outstanding food. You’ll love it!
