Beaujolais Nouveau

The third Thursday in November – last Thursday - is an important day.  It’s the day that the year’s supply of Beaujolais Nouveau is released—by decree of French law.  Made from 100% Gamay grapes, this flavorful red with low tannins is easy to drink and pairs well with cheese, roasted fowl, and bread—making it a great choice for Thanksgiving.  The fruity flavors of Beaujolais Nouveau are best when chilled slightly, though it may seem somewhat difficult to hide away the festively decorated bottle for any length of time.  Be sure to finish each bottle quickly —as the “nouveau” denotes, it’s not meant to be aged.  Beaujolais Nouveau’s simplicity has its critics, but sometimes it can’t hurt just to have a bright, fresh fruity wine that can be enjoyed by all of your guests. And the new Beaujolais is quite inexpensive.
