The first day of spring was a couple days ago, and in my house, our minds are on spring cleaning.  One of the best suggestions I can make is to switch from store-bought chemical cleaners to using white vinegar.  First, the vinegar is much less expensive, but better yet, it’s antimicrobial, and not at all dangerous.  The vinegar won’t have any scary chemical reactions—unless you’re scouring with baking soda, too, in which case, you’ll see some fizz.  If you hate the scent of vinegar, you can always infuse the acidic liquid with an herbal scent, by adding lavender or eucalyptus essential oils to the mixture.  Believe it or not, the oils have antiseptic properties too. So if you’re starting your spring scrub this weekend, buy a bottle of vinegar to get started.
