Silver Linings Playbook: Philly Cheesesteak

Now Epicurious has some great food and cocktail ideas tailored to this year’s Best Picture nominees. While they have a menu for all nine films, I’ll share with you a few selections—sorry, they’re probably a bit biased to my favorite films. For Silver Linings Playbook, the charming story of an unconventional pair set in Philadelphia, opt for an iconic Philly Cheese Steak. Red carpet coverage begins around 4, so if you want to start your party a little before that, this ode to Silver Linings is a great late lunch option.

To make 6 sandwiches, start by sautéing 3 medium onions and 2 green or red sweet bell peppers—all sliced very thin—in about 1 tbsp of olive oil. Add 1 teaspoon garlic salt and ½ teaspoon black pepper. Transfer mixture to bowl and set aside. In the same skillet, pan-fry 2 pounds of extra-lean beef tenderloin, sliced very thin. Pan-fry until brown but not crispy. Add onions and peppers. Place 6 slices mozzarella cheese on meat until slightly melted. Spoon cheese steak, onions and peppers onto 6 split soft Italian rolls and serve.
