An Excellent Seafood Restaurant with One Glaring Flaw

OCEANA at 120 West 49th Street is a beautiful restaurant. It is large and airy with the feeling of dining on a luxury ship. Service is professional and friendly and the wine list is excellent. The specialty here is very fresh seafood. Chef Ben Pollinger knows the subtleties of cooking seafood well. Calamari as a starter is very nicely done; peekytoe crab cakes are splendid. The raw bar offers a wide selection of oysters, clams and other fresh goodies. Main course feature fresh fish – dorade, sea bass and lovely Dover sole among others with a choice of preparations. The one big clunker on the menu is a $65 paella for two which bears no resemblance to real paella; its just bland rice and seafood. OCEANA is a fine restaurant but avoid the “paella.”
