It is officially December. The Christmas carols are turned up full volume, the trees are ablaze with festive lights and the cozy sweaters and coats have broken out of their hiding. Everything around you reflects the holidays and winter—your cocktails should too! I have some really great recipes in my Complete Book of Mixed Drinks, but one of my favorite seasonal recipes is the classic Brandy Eggnog. You’ll need 2 to 3 ounces brandy, ½ ounce sugar syrup (or to taste), 1 cup milk, 1 egg, 1 scoop crushed ice and freshly ground nutmeg. Mix all ingredients, except the nutmeg, in a shaker. Strain the mixture into a chilled highball glass. Sprinkle the nutmeg on top. A quick, easy and delicious cocktail, this holiday favorite is the perfect way to welcome December.
