‘Tis the Season to Warm Yourself with a Comforting Beverage
For a nod to one of the most classic of cold-weather drinks, opt for the hot rum toddy. This steaming brew was once thought to be a great treatment for cold or flu—mostly because after drinking enough of them, people would fall asleep for 13 hours or so. So for the sake of good health, let’s drink up! To make, dissolve 1 teaspoon honey in a splash of boiling water—preferably in a sturdy mug. Add 2 ounces white or light rum, stirring gently, add 1 lemon slice pierced with four whole cloves. Top the mug off with more boiling water, and drop in a cinnamon stick. Not only is the hot toddy simple to make, it also showcases the festive flavors of the season. Cheers!
