The Gift of Food
We’re five days shy of Christmas. If you’re scrambling for a delicious find for your more experimental foodie friends, Pok Pok by Andy Ricker and JJ Goode is the way to go. After spending decades in Thailand, Andy became seasoned in the country’s famed fare. Admittedly, Andy says that much of the beauty of the eclectic cuisine is the mystery behind each dish. In that spirit, open up a rustic, charred banana-leaf package to find the grilled curry fish. I also love the Isaan-style forest mushroom salad. This umami-rich starter is a testament to Thailand’s long history of vegetarian food. My only quibble about Pok Pok is that the recipes require some exotic ingredients that aren’t easy to track down. But the food is worth the search. For $35, Pok Pok makes a thoughtful gift.
