Drinks to Stay Warm
Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil emerged Sunday and was met with his shadow resulting in six more weeks of winter. To get through this chill, here are a couple of warm cocktails from my book The Complete Book of Mixed Drinks that are simple and easy to make. Whether you make them with friends for a fun night in or enjoy them by the fireplace with a good book, these drinks are sure to keep you warm.
Black Marie (hot)
¾ ounce dark rum ¾ ounce brandy ¼ ounce coffee liqueur 1 to 2 teaspoons superfine sugar 1 cup hot strong coffee or espresso
Combine the rum, brandy, and liqueur in a nonreactive saucepan and heat until warm, but do not boil. Add the sugar to the heated mixture, stirring until it is dissolved. Pour into a heat-proof punch glass and top off with the hot coffee or espresso. Stir & Serve!
1 ½ ounces of dark rum ½ ounce bourbon ½ ounce dark crème de cacao 4 ounces hot chocolate 2 ounces heavy cream, whipped
Pour the first four ingredients into an Irish coffee glass. Carefully spoon the cream on the top of the drink. Enjoy!
