There’s nothing quite as quintessentially summer as a popsicle. But this summer, I invite you to try a new type of popsicle. A paleta is a Latin American ice pop made with fresh fruit juice or juicy chunks of ripe fruit. They are served either water- or dairy-based, and are known to come in a variety of flavors, including cucumber dipped in chili powder, and perhaps slightly more universal, strawberry and chocolate. So why pick a paleta over a regular popsicle? Well, for starters, paletas don’t contain any corn syrup or sugar, and are made entirely from natural ingredients. They are also incredibly easy to make. All you need is a blender and a popsicle mold. But make sure you choose seasonal fruits. The sweeter your fruit is, the fewer sweeteners you’ll be inclined to use. Simply pour milk or water over your blended fruit into the mold, leave in your freezer overnight and enjoy!
