National Oatmeal Month
While you scramble your egg whites and fry up some bacon, consider a warm side of oatmeal. After all, it is National Oatmeal Month! Oatmeal can be made from a variety of oats, but steel-cut, rolled and quick oats have stood the test of time. Aside from being a great source of calcium and Vitamin B, oatmeal can actually be really tasty, comforting, and incredibly filling. To make, heat 1 ½ cups of whole milk and 2 cups or water in a medium pan until it simmers. Add 1 ½ cups of your desired oatmeal – not instant – and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 4 minutes. Jazz it up with dried fruits or nuts. Toss in fresh berries, and, if you have a sweet tooth, spoon in some honey. Who doesn’t like a warm breakfast on a cold winter’s morning?
