Today, I want to take you beyond the screwdriver. If your college days were anything like mine, you know the vodka-orange juice blend well. But vodka is a great foundation for much more complex drinks. From herbs and veggies to berries and egg, vodka welcomes most ingredients with open arms. One of my personal favorites is the Caipiroska. The Caiprioska is essentially the same muddled cocktail as the Caipirinha, but uses vodka in place of cachaça, which happens to be Brazil’s national spirit. You’ll need:
- Cracked Ice
- 1 Ounce Simple Syrup
- Half a Lime
- 2 Ounces Vodka
To make, fill your shaker with cracked ice. Add 1 ounce of simple syrup. Cut half a lime into small quarters. Muddle those ever so lightly just to extract juice without any bitterness from the lime. Then add 2 ounces of vodka. Shake until well blended, and serve with the same ice used during preparation. It’s a step up from spiked OJ!
