Neal Fraser’s REDBIRD was worth the wait. Located in a stunning new construction attached to the old Vibiana church at 2nd and Main in Downtown Los Angeles, REDBIRD offers one of the most beautiful and comfortable interiors in town. It even has a roof that opens to the sky. But Fraser’s food is the main attraction.
Start with exquisite shishito peppers with bottarga and quinoa, rich headcheese with fig mostarda, or rich Thai style crab soup. Then, rack of pork or rabbitchetta – rabbit stuffed with herbs. There is also a massive and expensive veal chop and a giant porterhouse that are both big enough to feed three. Whatever you do – don’t miss the pommes aligot, a heavenly combination of pureed potatoes and cheese.
REDBIRD is a grown-up restaurant without being stuffy. LA’s best restaurant? It’s right up there.
