Cookbook Recommendation: A Girl and her Greens
April Bloomfield first took my breath away with her much lauded book, A Girl and Her Pig. The assertive cooking titan is back, this time with goodies from her garden in A Girl and Her Greens. April celebrates the flavors of nature with delicate indulgences, such as Asparagus Quiches with Mint and Hasselback Potatoes with Lardo and Rosemary. Her Roasted Carrots and Burrata harmonize gorgeously. Add a little pesto, and it’s near perfect. And just when you’re about to flip back to her first literary masterpiece, April surprises you with recipes that include the lush pig in a section titled, “A Little Beast Goes a Long Way”. And, oh, is she right. The roasted mushroom with pancetta and goat cheese dish delivers unparalleled savory flavors in each bite. There are other sections, too, that cover the seasons’ bests, pastas, sauces, and vegetable juices. April Bloomfield makes greens interesting in A Girl and Her Greens, $35.
