Brendan Collins, whose Waterloo & City was a Culver City mainstay, has opened a new place, BIRCH, in Hollywood on Cahuenga. This lively bistro offers an exciting menu of exceptionally delicious dishes.
Start with stunning chicken liver mousse; peach, burata and prosciutto salad or hamachi crudo. Then tuck into the amazing rabbit baklava. Also, don’t miss the charred octopus with eggplant and red pepper hummus, the crispy shrimp and calamari or the mind-blowing pork shank. And definitely save room for Brendan’s signature sticky toffee pudding – the best in LA.
Drinks are great, the wine list is reasonable and service is friendly. Definitely order the Carrot-Aperol Cocktail, it’s absolutely unbelievable. After you try it, love it, and can’t get enough of it… make it at home!
- 2 ounces carrot juice
- 1 1/2 ounces dry gin
- 3/4 ounce Aperol
- 3/4 ounce lemon juice
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup
- 2 dashes Scrappy's Cardamom Cocktail Bitters (optional)
Add all ingredients to cocktail shaker with five ice cubes and shake for three seconds. Strain into ice-filled stemless wine glass and garnish with a carrot flower.
BIRCH could easily become a regular hangout. BIRCH, at 1634 North Cahuenga Boulevard, just around the corner from the W hotel, serves lunch weekdays and brunch on weekends. Check it out.
