Wine with Sports
Bordeaux or bud? Beer has always been a staple at sporting events, but wine is slowly making its way into the hands of fans everywhere.
Ken Belson of The New York Times reports that wine sales are progressively growing at a faster rate than beer, something unexpected in the sports community. Nielsen ratings have been tracking beverage and alcohol sales and show that beer sales tend to increase by $40 million dollars right before the super bowl. Wine and spirits increase around $20 million. Though the number may seem large, the gap is moderate considering that beer is a much larger category with more money poured into advertising. Next time you’re picking up a keg or six-pack; don’t forget to grab a cab or chard too.
