Grilled Cheese Day
Tomorrow is National Grilled Cheese Day! Here are some tips on how to master the perfect grilled cheese.
First, start with good bread. Look for something strong enough to hold all the cheese. Sliced Pullman or Sourdough is great.
Next, be sure to lather up those slices with fat. Part of what makes a grilled cheese wonderful is the buttery crisp and crunch from the toasted bread, achieved through a generous slather of butter or mayonnaise before toasting.
When choosing your cheese, avoid using hard aged cheeses like Parmesan, or dry and crumbly cheeses like goat and feta. Opt for ones that melt well. American, Swiss, Cheddar, and Monterey Jack are all great options.
Lastly, be patient and toast on a medium low heat. High heat will burn the toast and you definitely don’t want that.
