Cocktail of the Week

Caminho das Índias

2 oz. Bombay Sapphire gin
1 oz. Justino’s Rainwater Medium-Dry Madeira
1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
3/4 oz. Licor Beirão, a spiced orange liqueur from Portugal (imported by Aidil wines)
Mild curry to garnish

Pour a little mound of Madras curry on a small plate and set aside. Moisten the outer edge of a cocktail glass by rubbing it with a lime wedge. Gently roll the rim of the cocktail glass onto the curry, coating only half of the glass and set aside.

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour all the ingredients.
Grab a bar spoon with a long handle and hold it in between your thumb and index and middle fingers. Stir gently for about 30 seconds with an upward and downward motion, while twirling the spoon in between your fingers. Strain into cocktail glass and serve.

This cocktail (the name means "Route to the Indies") is currently served at Alfama, fine Portuguese cuisine and was created by Tarcisio Costa, Wine & Spirits Director. Alfama is located at 551 Hudson Street at Perry Street in New York's West Village. Tel: 212-645-2500
